AHART FAMILY:

Some one wrote an asked me if the Airharts became Aharts after a while. It got me wondering so I am going to see if that just might be possible. The name Ahart began appearing in Miller county in the 1880s, in the form of a Mary A. Ahart & family.

1880 census:
Mary A. Ahart age 39 (Mo)
William M. age 20 (Mo)
Harriett age 12 (Mo)
John W. age 7 (Mo)
Joseph age 3 (Mo)

George Ahart married Sarah Whitaker, 1/20/1891.
Annie Ahart married James H. Cross, 10/17/1890.
Nancy Ahart married James Crider, 1/27/1891.
James C. Ahart married May J. Wicham, 9/28/1893.
William R. Ahart married Margaret Brandon, 10/13/1898.
Dora Ahart married Charles M. Garrett, 12/13/1896.
Sisley Ahart married John T. Pope, 5/19/1897.

Similaritys: They are both from Richwood Township. They are both from the Iberia area. They both lived close to the Jarretts.

We find George Airhart in the 1900 census with a wife named Sarah.
I can find no marriage record of George Airhart marrying a Sarah, but I do have a George Ahart marrying a Sarah Whitaker in the same time period.

In the1880 census I have a William R. Airhart married to Martha Humphrey. In the 1900 census, I have a William R. Airhart with a new wife named Margaret. I find no such marriage on record. But I find a marriage of a William R. Ahart married to a Margaret that jives with the time period.

While I can find nothing conclusive to say they are one family, there is a possiblity of name errors on a couple of occasions. Let's here it from the Airharts & Aharts. In your search for family history did you find these names mixed?
