Many of the slaves did not know what to do when they were freed, and many of the their previous owners would still feed them and try to take care of them, when the law would allow them to do so. The slaves would work for who-ever would hire them I think that the following family was an example of this. I believe they are related to the Berrys in Miller county, who lived just about 8 miles down the Little Tavern Creek where it runs into the Big Tavern Creek. For those who keep these look-ups, I would attach this to the Miller County look-up. A Berry researcher can probably tie them together.
