BILYEU FAMILY:

This is the toughest line to work because there were so many and they were constantly moving. According to Peggy Hake's book, "Pioneer Families of Miller County" they started in Maryland, then Tennessee, then Illinois and Missouri. It's obvious they were in Kentucky too. Half of them went to Oregon. The Bilyeu of the most significance to us was John Bilyeu. John was married twice, once to Sarah McGrew and then to Rachel Carr. John and his second wife came here from Tennessee in the 1830s and died here in 1853. Their son Peter Bilyeu and his wife Jane lived here and had the following children: Nancy who married John Dyer in 1843. John L. married Nancy Workman. George(Single) born 2/11/1826 died 3/18/92 in Oregon. Didama Ruth Bilyeu married John Kinder 3/18/46. Peter and Jane left Miller County in 1850 and went to Oregon where most of the Bilyeus had gone. He was a Justice of the Peace and married my Great-Grandfather and Great-Grandmother, Sept. 17, 1841, before he left.

In the 1840 census of Miller County, there were no less than 13
separate families of Bilyeus.
