There has probably been more research and stories done on this family than any other family in Maries County. More people can say my grandmother was a Chrismon than probably any other name. The names of Helton and Rowden would probably be 2 & 3, take your pick. It would not be hard to find people who are related to all three. Dr. King's history of the Crismons, in his book the History of Maries County, is the best known. Though riddled with in-accuracys, it is my favorite. The stories are great even if some are half truths. Henry Crismon did a little research paper on the Crismons that is quite good. He has been dead for many years. There has been a lot of speculation as to the Indian blood of the Crismons. This has been disputed by the recovery of wills etc. I have all of the above books and a shoe box full of unorganized Crismon information that I have accumulated from great sources, belonging to this rootsweb. My prize possession is a book, given to me by a Crismon descendant in the state of Washington. It is called "Crismons--Virginia to Oregon". It has the Hite Family and their ancestors. Jacob Crismon's wife was Magdalena (Hite) Crismon. I can assure you the Hites were not ndian, but probably one of the wealthiest families in Virginia. It has the pedigrees of 181 families descended from the Jacob and Magdalena. I could not begin to put all the information, on the Crismon family, on paper, in my life-time. I am one of the many who can say, my grandmother was a Crismon. I am just going to work with the census and marriage records of Maries and MIller County.
