The Fancher Family is a very interesting family. They came to Missouri from North Carolina via Tennessee and Illinois. The lucky ones came to Miller County. The Fanchers of Miller county come from the same ancestral line as Capt. Alexander Fancher. He was the wagonmaster of the ill-fated Fancher Wagon Train. This wagon train was on its way to California and was ambushed and only 17 survivored, all small children, out of 125. Capt. Fancher lived in Miller County for a short time and moved to Arkansas. There is a book about the wagon train called "Massacre at Meadow Meadows". Peggy Hake has a good account of this incident in her book, "Pioneer Families of Miller County". The Fanchers settled in the Little Richwoods area around Brays Mill. Thomas Hampton Fancher was probably the first Fancher to settle in Miller County. Thomas was here in the 1840 census with a family of 5. Thomas was 1st married to Malinda Smith. Malinda died12/31/1867. 1870 census: (Richwood Twp) Thomas H. Fancher married Sarah E.
