This family played an important part in the organizing and serving Miller County. It is obvious that they were fairly well educated for the times. The Harrisons are well documented and I am doing this for my own benefit. You might find something here, you don't already know, but I doubt it. Out of the very first seven County Officials of Miller County, two were Harrisons. James Pryor Harrison was Clerk of the County Court. He was the very first County Official. William H. Harrison was Sheriff and Collector. Collector went along with the Sheriff's job. My grandfather ran against William for this job, later on. Although they were friends, they had some heated political battles. One in particular that is outlined in Judge Jenkins' "History of Miller County County" Volume One. They became friends again afterwards, like polititions do. The Civil War did not do either one of them much good politically. Harrison's Store, a trading post, was selected by the commissioners as the permanent seat of government for Miller Co. on April 17,1837. The accounts of all this are in Judge Jenkins book Volume 1 and should be read by Harrisons with a great deal of pride. The oldest Harrison I can find is in the 1840 census. His name is Reuben Harrison and he was in his 50s. He was in a family of 7.
