When I am doing a look-up, or searching through old cemeteries, I find at least one old tombstone with the name Moss. They seem to have married into some of the more prominent names in the county. The are buried close to my people in cemeteries in Miller County. The dates on some of these stones tell me the Moss family had to be an important part in the growth of this area. What I have seen already tells me, I may be biting off more than I can chew, when I do this look-up. But something stronger tells me I have to do it. According to Dr. King's History of Maries county, all descendants of the Moss family come from Rachel, William and Edward Moss. I will start will some of the recorded marriages and try to tie them in with the censuses.

Edward (Neddie) Moss married Mary Boone. He was a Baptist Minister. They had 5 children: Johnathan, William, Edward Jr., Temperance, and Louise. Temperance was married twice, once to William Lawson and then to Isaac Renfrow Sr., Louise married Jack Lawson. Johnathan Moss married Mary D. Tyree. William married Martha J. Tyree. Edward Jr. married Cordelia Tyree. Edward married a second time to a widow Hutton nee Roberson, and had three children: Lucinda married W. T. Burgess, James married Matilda Coffey, and Martha married William Murphy, then B. I. Coffey.

William Moss age 16 is living with Hermann and Ann Kliever. He is

their Nephew.

Rachel Boone married David Moss. They had 6 children, John, Elijah,

James, Ashbury, Daniel and Martha.

William Moss was in Maries County in 1838. He died Jan. 1, 1851. He

had four children: Salina, Mary wife of William Davis, Amanda wife of

F. M. Gilley, Elizabeth wife of James Hawkins, and James H. Moss,

Salina Moss married James Wilson. They had 4 children: Eliza J. Wilson

wife of Ara Crismon, Tina, George, and "Buddy". Salina was the

daughter of William Moss.
