This family has been coming up in my genealogy travel lately. Let's see what we can come up with. In the 1840 census we had a young couple here in their teens are early 20s. The man was John Record. Sherwood Record was here in a family of six. Sherwood was in his 30s. There were 4 males and 2 females. Sherwood P. Record married Amy Dyer, 7/14/1842. I believe this is Sherwood's 2nd marriage. Mary Ann Record married John Earp, 7/24/1842. (Sherwood's dau.) John Record & wife Mary were here for the 1850 census and 10 yrs. older. John Record married Mary Ann Reed, 7/24/1839. This was the 10th marriage recorded in the new 2 year old Miller County. 1850 census: John Record age 30 (Tenn) Mary (Reed) age 31 (Mo) James age 8 (Mo)----- Mary age 5 (Mo) Thomas age 3 (Mo) Narcissus age 1 (Mo) George Record age 19 (ILL) James Record married Mary Duckworth, 11/7/1859. 1860 census: (Richwood Twp) John Record married Narcissus Reed, 12/25/1850. John Record age ??? Narcissus age 29 (Mo) Mary A. age 8 (Mo) William S. age 7 (Mo) Matilda age 5 (Mo) John J. age 3 (Mo) Martha E. age 1 (Mo) George W. Record age 29 (ILL) 1860 census: (Richwood Twp) John W. Record age 39 Mary A. age 41 James age 18 Mary A. age 20 Mary J. age 15 (married Lewis Henson Atwell, 8/22/1861.) Thomas age 13 Narcissus age 11 Martha A. age 9 John E. age 7 Sarah age 6 Susannah age 3 (married William Pittman, 7/15/1878.) 1880 census: (Richwood Twp) William Pittman age 19 (Mo) Susannah (Susie) age 23 (Mo) Charles W. age 10 months. 1850 census: James Record married Tabitha Burris, 6/15/1841. Elizabeth Burris age 53 (S.C.) Tabitha Record age 29 (Tenn) Mary Record age 8 (Mo) (still together in 1860) 1860 census: (Equality Twp) Elizabeth Burris age 63 Tabitha Record age 39 (married Felix Bond, 6/24/1866.) Mary E. Record age 18 Mary Elizabeth Record to Charles J. Smith, 12/20/1860 (Texas Co) 1880 census: (Richwood Twp) Felix Bond age 59 (Tn) Felix G. age 15 (Mo) Thomas H. Fancher age 27 (Tn) (son-in-law) Neurana Fancher (Bond) age 25 (Mo) (daughter) This family was obviously affected by the Civil War and practically vanished before the 1870 census. No further record exists in Miller County after the 1878 marriage of Susannah to William Pittman and their being in the 1880 census. The Record Family & the Reed Family lived close together and the name Narcissus was popular in both families. I find this more than a coincidence. DeVere |
