According to Dr. King, the Shockley's main settlement was in Gasconade County. He says the Maries County Shockley's are pretty much the descendants of three brothers, from these Gasconade Shockleys. I think you will find a few that strayed over into MIller County. The three brothers of the Maries county heritage were Meredith Shockley, William Shockley and Thomas V. Shockley. The Shockley's were industrious and apparently generous people who were quick to donate land, time and money to the growth of their prospective Counties. I have heard the name Shockley mentioned by my parents many times and always with a great deal of respect. I will try to trace these brothers and their descendants through the census and marriage records. I will use Dr. Kings book where I think it is accurate. We find the Elder William Shockley living with his son in the 1880 Maries county census of Jackson Twp. Thomas R. Shockley age 26 Sarah J.
