TYREE FAMILY:



The two Tyrees that are of the most concern to Maries County were Satterthwaite Sr. and James Harvey Tyree Sr. They arrived here in 1842 and married sisters, Elizabeth and Cordelia Stanford. Most, if not all their children were born in Kentucky.

Satterthwaite Tyree settled on the Little Maries on what was known as the Sweeney Place. He and his wife lived out their lives on this place. They had eight children:

a. James Harvey Tyree, born Aug. 15, 1841, and died Aug. 3, 1915. He married Caterine Massey, born Aug. 27, 1843 and died Sept. 30, 1917. They spent their lives in Southern Mo. and Northwestern Arkansas. Their son Satterthwaite was in the Methodist ministry in those areas.

b. John Israel (Niz) Tyree married Margaret Helton. They were the parents of 9 children, 4 sons and 5 daughters. John and his family moved next to his brother James, in Arkansas and lived out their lives there. In the 1880 census of Maries County they were: John I. (widowed) age 51, Malinda age 26, Ann age 22, Amanda age 20, Martha age 18, James age 15, Joseph age 13, Peter age 11, Satterthwaite age 9, Ida age 8. There was a Belinda Tyree (widow) age 68 and her daughter Belinda age 40 living next to them.

c. Nancy Tyree born Nov. 29, 1829, died Dec. 19, 1888. She
was married to Robert Rowden. In 1880 census they were:
Robt. Rowden age 60,

Nancy age 53,

Robt. L. age 15,

Meniga(Belinda?) age 13.

d. Ellen Tyree married William Krone.

e. Mary D. Tyree married Jonathan Moss. They had four daughters: Eliza, Ellen, Cordelia and Mary.

f. Martha J. Tyree married William Moss. Moved to Arkansas. They then moved to Joplin Mo. and died there.

g. Cordelia married Edward Moss Jr. Moved to Arkansas. Then they moved to Joplin Mo. and died there.

h. Amanda married James Helton.

James Harvey Tyree Senior, brother of Satterthwaite Senior, lived on the Big Maries in Osage County. He was killed by bushwackers during the Civil War. They were the parents of seven children. John, Wesley, Harvey, Satterthwaite, Mary, Rebecca J., Malinda Ann. All are dead.

a. Wesley Tyree, a Methodist Minister, married Sarah Taff and later Margaret Hooker. There were no children by either marriage.

b. J. Harvey Tyree, a lawyer, married Lumina Davis. They had the following children: Dr. Fred Tyree in Kansas, Millie Felker (Tyree), Maude, Jessie Felker (Tyree), and Cora Truesdale.

c. Dr. James Tyree married Betsy Jane Vaughan. They had the following children: Edward, Minnie Warren(Tyree),
Amanda Vaughan(Tyree), Nannie Brock(Tyree), Pauline Parsons(Tyree) and Richard.

d. Dr. Satterthwaite Tyree was born July 28, 1841 and died Sept. 2, 1899. He married Martha C. Smith who was born May 4, 1847 and died Feb. 11, 1901. They had the following children: Mollie Tonsel(Tyree), Benjamin, Mattie Baker(Tyree) Robert, Rachel Black(Tyree), Olive Derrick(Tyree), Satterthwaite, and Angela.

e. Rebecca J. Tyree married Aaron Short. They had 4 children: Neoma, John, William, and Bertha.

f. Malinda Ann Tyree married Stephen Koester. They had 6 children: Joseph, Ann & Mary (twins), John, George, Margaret Martin(Tyree).

g. Mary Tyree married Stephen Boeckmann. They had 9 children: Anna Wilde(Boeckmann), Martin, Bettie, Fred,
August, Henry, Hermann, Belle Pierce(Boeckmann) and Agnes Hopen(Boeckmann).
