I have noticed the Witten family a lot in my look-ups but I never realized what an old and large Miller county family they are. There were no less than four Witten families here for the very first census in 1840. I have probably done the best look-up, I have ever done for getting the right families with the right children and getting everybody accounted for etc. But after the 1880s, the Wittens just vanished from the Miller County records. Did they jump counties, states or what? Family No.1. ====================================== Floyd was here in a family of 6. That increased somewhat by the 1850 census. Floyd Witten age 37 (Ky) Elizabeth age 36 (Tenn) Samuel age 16 (Ky) Elizabeth age 15 (Ky) Susannah age 13 (Missouri) James age 10 (Mo) Nancy age 8 (Mo) Eleanor age 6 (Mo) Robert age 4 (Mo) Thomas age 2 (Mo) Sarah age 1 (Mo) They were surrounded by other Kentuckians, the Bond, Sullens, and Simpson families. Family No. 2. ======================================= Samuel Witten was here in 1840 in a family of 5. I believe Samuel is the father of the other Witten families that were here at that time.
